A Very Go To Christmas: The Maxwell Top Pattern Review

I'm taking a short break from "Boys Will Be Boys . . . So Hand Make Their Toys" to participate in A Very Go To Christmas.  If you haven't been following along with this pattern tour, you'll find the complete list of pattern reviewers at the bottom of this post.

When Andrea asked me to be part of A Very Go To Christmas I knew exactly which of the Go To Patterns I wanted to make.  Again.  I know, you're thinking why in the world wouldn't you go for another of the great patterns available and sew something new.  But after making this one, I just couldn't help myself.  I had to make another Maxwell Top.

I love all of the details of this darling boy shirt. This time around I went with a solid navy Kona cotton with a navy gingham for the back yoke, front pockets and tab.  Each time I sew this pattern, I'm amazed at how easy Shwin Designs makes it to sew a yoke.

I went with snaps this time around and kept the buttons for accents on the sleeves and front tabs.

The directions for this pattern are very clear and while the first time around I was thrilled to find the ladies had put together this video to help clarify the front facing directions, I found I didn't need them this time around.  I was able to whip this baby up in about an hour and most of that was time spent making sure all of the little details were spot on.

I'm seriously in love with the sleeve tabs.  I especially love how many different ways you can alter this shirt by making just a few small adjustments.  Without the recommended twill tape on the pockets and sleeves, this shirt takes on more of a retro bowling shirt.  And did you know you can also mix it up and use the pattern to create a knit polo shirt?
