Did you know that my friend Melissa, of Melly Sews, has been working feverishly on a Blank Slate Basics Holiday Collection? Guess who was lucky enough to test a few of her patterns. Yep, that'd be me.
I tested the Trendy Tuxedo Pants and Shirt. They are both darling, easy to sew patterns. And, as to be expected, they go perfectly together.
I tested a size 6 in each pattern so I'd have a dapper holiday outfit ready to go for C. Maybe not so holiday-ish in terms of color but I figure this way, we'll get a lot of use out of it.
The pants were sewn using corduroy in black and white houndstooth. The pattern is a dream to work with, especially if you've tried out her Clean Slate Pants. The added features to this basic pant pattern are the adorable front pockets,
As with the Clean Slate Pants, the pattern includes welt pocket in the back.
And look ma! Melissa single-handed-ly helped me over come my fear of zippers. A real, working, shortened zipper, to be exact. Her directions, throughout the pattern instructions, are clear and concise and make even scary things like zippers a dream.
As my sewing is improving, I'm finding the most important part of finding good patterns, is the fit. Store bought pants rarely fit this guy without button elastic or a belt. Melissa's patterns fit my six year old perfectly.
Which means he can feel relaxed and confident in his "fancy" clothes
leaving room for more
I'll be back tomorrow to talk about the Trendy Tuxedo Shirt. Until then, have a great day!
