Large Men's T-shirt, preferably black
scissors, coordinating thread
Pellon Heavyweight Interfacing (optional)
Step 1: Trace the profile of your little ninja
Step 2: Trace template onto black knit fabric adding 1 inch for the seam allowance. If you lay your pattern on the fold of the t-shirt you'll save yourself from sewing the third side later.
Step 3: Using a 1/2 inch seam and a zig-zag stitch, with right sides together, sew along the raw edges from the top of the head down to the neck. Make sure to leave the bottom open. (Don't be confused by the eye opening as this comes next.
Step 4: With the mask still inside out, mark your eye opening by drawing a triangle where the child's eyes will be. Don't be afraid to have the child try on the mask and mark where their eyes will be.
Step 5 (optional): Create the alternate nose guard. Measure the child from ear to ear and brim of nose to chin. You can then create a customized trapezoid shape to match the child's facial features.
Once you have the triangle template to your liking, trace and cut 2 pieces of black knit and 1 piece of heavyweight interfacing.
Sew all sides of the triangles, right sides together, leaving a 1 inch space for turning.
Turn the fabric right side out and stuff the interfacing inside.
Fold in the edges of the opening and then, using a zig-zag stitch, sew around all sides of the triangle being sure to close the turning hole.
Attach the triangle by hand sewing the top two points just under where the ears will be
or sew on velcro to make the nose guard detachable.
There you go, your own little ninja mask. Pair the mask with black sweats and your little one will be ready to party like a ninja.
